First, let me say that I don’t read serials. Like ever. As in, this is my first one. I’ve never trusted myself to enjoy serials, because even novellas sort of drive me crazy most of the time. There’s not enough depth usually, and I feel like big chunks are missing. I love Jenna though and was intrigued with the idea of this from the get go, so I knew I must give it a whirl. I’m so incredibly glad I did. No, you don’t get a full back story on each character. No, you don’t have many tens of thousands of words to build up to the beginning of their relationship. And you know what? It’s okay. I enjoyed myself while reading Taught, even without it. Tyler has proven to me that I can become invested in a connection and relationship without knowing every small detail.
The premise of the book is exciting, and the fast pace will keep you enthralled with every page. They dive right on in, and I loved it. No big sweeping promises, just two people enjoying the company of one another. It’s really so simple. The hint of more to come, or the possibility of much deeper emotions lying under the surface made me all giddy though, and I can’t wait to see what’s to come for Marissa and Brady.
Overall, massive high five to Jenna Tyler for turning me into a believer of serials and novellas. While this is only book one in the series, I’m already jumping in head first and am much too excited to learn more. Keep them coming, and I’ll keep on one-clicking cause I’m hooked.
