Sidebarred | Emma Chase

Have you ever just wanted a little bit more from your favorite series or your favorite couple in a series? Not where the author left off anything missing and it feels incomplete. Just that you’ve loved a series so much or you loved a couple so much, you want more. That’s Sidebarred by Emma Chase.

I have loved all three books of Emma’s Legal Briefs series but I especially loved Jake and Chelsea’s story and Sidebarred just adds to their story. You see Chelsea and Jake, you see the kids, you see their future. And that epilogue brought tears to my eyes.

Sidebarred is that book that you didn’t realize you needed until you read it. In your mind, the story was complete. But then you read Sidebarred and you realize, it wasn’t. And you needed more not just wanted more.

Dirty | Kylie Scott

I was so super hesitant starting Dirty. Not because I don’t love Kylie Scott’s writing but because I love it so much. I love her Stage Dive series. I was invested in those characters and I was nervous about loving another set of characters. I feel really silly being so nervous. I know you can love more than one series of characters from an author. It’s happened before.

But you know what, there was nothing to be nervous about. Dirty was amazing. And very quickly did I not only fall in love with Vaughn and Lydia, but every single character. I can not wait for their books to come. I can not wait to see Vaughn and Lydia in the future. I can not wait to read more from Kylie.

Vaughn is a character we’d met in the past. His band toured with Stage Dive. You didn’t know much about him. Mainly the basics. And that he was a manwhore. Obviously you learn more about him in Dirty. But what you learn, made me swoon. I didn’t expect the swooning or even how much I did swoon or even how early I swooned. But swoon I did. (BTW can you guess I swooned?)

The Sound of Serendipity by Cynthia A. Rodriguez

What can I really say? All day long – at work, with the kiddos, during lunch, etc. – and for many days now, I’ve tried to come up with a way to accurately describe my love for The Sound of Serendipity. Guess what I’ve come up with? Not a damn thing, because it’s impossible for words on paper to express my adoration and the completely ridiculous amount of fangirl love I have for this book.

Kinda interesting story. I had never heard of Cynthia A. Rodriguez. Unbeknownst to me, she had a few prior releases (which I now will be one-clicking to devour at a later time) and she had this upcoming book that no one knew about. It was super sneaky. So while I’ve been reading it, I couldn’t talk to anyone. That’s like torture! I couldn’t squee about it. I couldn’t vent out my frustrations over some of the character’s mistakes they made. I couldn’t do anything except soak it all in, but in the end, I’m so glad that I went at it by myself. It allowed me to really dive into the story, with no preconceived notions, no pressure from friends, no expectations on what others had suggested. Just me, Emerson, Maddox, and Cynthia’s flawless writing. Ahh, now that’s the life.

Save Me by Heidi McLaughlin

Heidi McLaughlin outdid herself with Save Me. I wasn’t sure what to expect going into it. There were so many mysteries and I wasn't’ sure how she was going to get through them and come to the conclusion I was hoping for. In fact, throughout the book, I kept repeating, oh my god, holy shit and what the fuck. It was one of those books my kids loved because mom didn’t ask anything of them the day I read it except to go watch tv because mom can’t put down this book.

Before reading Save Me, you have to read Here with Me and Choose Me. This isn’t one of those books where you can just pick up the third book because it’s about a different person. This book solves so many things in the first two books. In fact, for me, it changed my mind about so many things I thought was going to happen. I learned that I had no clue what was really going on. But it made it that much better.

Tucker and Penny’s story is surrounded by mystery. It’s surrounded by heartbreak. It’s surrounded by lies and deceit for both parties. But the ending was beautiful. It not only fulfilled the characters, it fulfilled me. I was left with happiness. Do I want more? Of course I do. But these characters deserve a rest and the happiness they now have.

Paper Princess by Erin Watt

GUYS! Hey you! Y’all need to listen to me! Paper Princess is the best book I’ve read this year so far! Did you hear that? THE BEST BOOK! I don’t even know how to tell you about this book. But it has angst. It has shock. It has that unputdownable factor that we all love. And did I love this book. The first thing I did when I finished was message the authors needing to know when book 2 will be out. Because I need it now. NEED IT. But unfortunately it won’t be out until summer. You know what that means? I will be rereading this multiple times.

This isn’t about book about a girl and her messed up life. But it is. This isn’t a book about a rich boy who isn’t happy about her being around. But it is. This isn’t a book about a family that hasn’t had it easy. But it is. This book consumed me. I started it this morning and by 4 pm I was messaging the authors begging, needing, wanting more.

Lexington and 42nd by Kim Carmody

Ahh, I needed this book. I’ve been in a massive book funk for the last month. I was scared to read books that I had been anticipating, because what if my funk ruined it? I was frustrated when I did try to read because nothing was really doing it for me. That all changed with Lexington and 42nd. I feel like I need to fly to Australia and give Kim Carmody a giant hug, not only because she has written such a fantastic novel, but also because she helped me prove to myself that I was not, indeed, broken. Whew! Enough about that though…

Kim Carmody. Those are two words and one name you need to remember. Keep it fresh in your minds because I feel like something big will come from her. Honestly, it only makes sense for one release, somewhere down the line, to go BOOM for Carmody. She has written a spectacular debut novel, and if this is only her debut? Goodness, I can’t wait to see what’s in store. Her writing style is fun, fresh, and yet so eloquent. You can tell that she gave it her all with the characters and she’ll make you fall in love with them, flaws and all, but that’s where this story is a bit different. These characters don’t have to have broken backgrounds and painful memories. It’s simply a feel good tale of two people with an intriguing love story, and that, in my opinion, can’t be beat.

The Slam by Haleigh Lovell

With a cast of unique characters, The Slam is a book that opened my eyes to the world of someone with Autism. While the synopsis talks about how this book is a sports book, to me it isn’t. Does Ender and Adelaide play tennis? Yes. But it wasn’t the focus like many other sports books. It’s a background item that doesn’t have a huge place in the book, just in their lives. The synopsis is very misleading. There is so much more to this book then what the synopsis says. So very much more.

I will admit there were times that I wasn’t sure if I wanted to finish this book. I had a hard time connecting with the characters. But I’m glad I did. I just wish there was more. It needed more. To me, it kind of ended abruptly. Sweetly, but just kind of ended.

Overall, I enjoyed The Slam. This was my first Haleigh Lovell book and I’m eager to read more. The story was unique. The idea was unique. I just needed more.
