Even though its not necessary I highly recommend reading Very Wicked Beginnings prior to Very Wicked Things. While it wasn’t necessary for Ilsa Madden-Mills to write it, I’m so happy she did. Not only does it fill in some of the story, all of the proceeds in May go to the Keith Milano Memorial Fund.
Very Wicked Things is book 2 in the Briarcrest Academy series. In book 1, Very Bad Things, you get an introduction to Cuba. And even though he’s a player, I actually really liked him in Very Bad Things, but I fell in love with him in Very Wicked Things. He just did something to me. He is a player, he is a bit of a bad boy, he has very big issues at home, which you learn about in Very Wicked Beginnings and is built upon in Very Wicked Things. He is also one of the sweetest guys. When he falls in love, he falls HARD! When you learn about his background, you can’t help but feel for him. And I wanted to help him SO much!
Then you have Dovey. Dovey is one of the strongest characters I’ve ever read. Especially for how young she is. Like Cuba, her life hasn’t been easy, but in a totally different but somewhat similar way. Yes I know that doesn’t make sense, because how can it be totally different but somewhat similar all at the same time? But it is. I just don’t want to give anything away. Dovey is a ballerina. Dovey is strong. Dovey knows what she wants and what she doesn’t. Dovey has had more things go on in her 18 years than most people have had in their whole life. But she doesn’t dwell on them. She just keeps going. She keeps moving towards her goals. She doesn’t get beat down. If an obstacle gets in her way, she will solve the problem no matter what she has to do.
I really loved this book. I really loved these characters. Ilsa did a great job taking 2 people who are broken and healing them. It wasn’t easy. And it wasn’t quick, which she easily could have done. She made them fight for the happiness. She made them wait. But it worked. Sometimes in a book, the characters get together so quickly and all their problems solved quickly, but not in Very Wicked Things. These characters didn’t have an easy way out. And I LOVED IT!
