The Reeducation of Savannah McGuire has to be one of the sweetest stories I’ve ever read. Heidi McLaughlin is such a versatile author. She is known to write such strong alpha males, in both rock star and military guys, that writing such a sweet cowboy is different for her but she made me connect to him like no other.
The Reeducation of Savannah McGuire isn’t the type of book I’ve been reading lately but I never not read anything Heidi McLaughlin writes. And I am so glad I took a break from the heavy angst that I’ve been reading. This book is also something I could see happening in real life. The situations, the reactions, the problems, all seem very real life. And Heidi does an awesome job at that. While she writes angst, it’s not over the top. While she writes alpha, its what you would see in real life. She excels at giving you what you want, but in a real life way.
Savannah and Tyler are destined to be together. They’ve been told that since they were little. As the grew up, they were best friends. And then Savannah moved away from their little town in Texas to New York City. Now many years later, she’s back. She’s older, worldlier, and with an attitude to match the size of NYC. She doesn't want to be back in Texas. But after getting into some trouble, she has no choice. Once there, she fights it. She does what she needs to do. But Tyler is there. And even though he messed up in the beginning, she is starting to thaw to him. And all of those feelings that were there when she was younger, are evolving.

Tyler, super sweet, super loving, Tyler, knows he made a mistake the day Savannah stepped off the bus. And he tries to rectify that. But Savannah has her walls up. And he stops trying. Why should he try, when she’s not at all receptive to it? But slowly she changes, and slowly he breaks down those walls. And those feelings they always had, those predictions that were made, they start coming true.
While The Reeducation of Savannah McGuire isn’t all happy and easy, Heidi adds just the right amount of conflict and angst. But she writes a couple that loves and respects each other and takes each others feelings into account of decisions they make. While Savannah is only 17, she is mature. When she falls, she falls hard. And Tyler, who is older and is ready for more than Savannah is, is there to catch her but also give her time.
My only disappointment in the story is that there wasn’t enough. When I got to the end and tried to turn the page and there were no more pages, I wanted to cry. I fell so in love with this couple and the secondary characters, I wanted so much more. Does that take down how many stars I give this book? Absolutely not. It shows how awesome the writing is. And shows how well the author makes you connect to the characters and the story. These are characters I want to see grow.
