I needed a few days to breathe. It didn’t work. I’m still reeling, minutes, hours, and days later. Gah this book! THIS BOOK! Okay let’s talk about it…
First, I have to say from the get go that this was my first Megan Smith book. I’m always intrigued with the idea of a standalone spin off. Can it truly stand by itself? I usually tend to go ahead and grab the others beforehand, but I gave this one a whirl all by itself. The answer to that question right up there is yes, it can absolutely, positively stand alone. Smith builds the main characters, as well as the supporting characters, in such a way that makes you fully understand, but also pulls you into their world. There’s no confusion or overlapping that will make you scratch your head. It flowed exactly as I had hoped it would, and gave us just enough information without overwhelming. I do desperately want to go back and read the entire series now though. I need more!
I have a massive crush right now on Eli. He’s caring, trusting, and kind. Swoony, right? The pull he had for Layla was what we all want in these books. That connection and intensity right from the get go was amazing. Layla… Poor Layla. She’s trying so hard and gives everything her all just to make things right for her little sister and herself. They live in a very broken household, plus her abusive boyfriend that feels as if he owns her. It’s all too much, but she tries. I’ve found myself getting a tad bit tired of the “broken” heroines, but Layla just worked. Her story mixed with Eli’s couldn’t have melded better. Their relationship is heartbreakingly beautiful and beautifully heartbreaking, all in one.

Overall, Stay for Me is written in such a fast-paced manner and your fingers will be flying over your Kindle screen. It’s one page after another, without a care in the world, because you MUST know what happens to these two characters. It’s intense, passionate, painful, frustrating, and will break you into a million different pieces. You’ll cry, swoon, laugh, and everything in between. It’s such a great mixture and that makes it so easy to read. If you’re familiar with Megan Smith, I hear this is a recurring theme, but be prepared to have your heart shattered. Demolished. Just be ready, but enjoy the ride. It’s worth it.
