What do you say in a review when all you REALLY want to say is, “I loved this book!” That’s my current predicament. I can’t stop smiling. Like honest to goodness, can’t and I don’t want to. It has been a very long time since I’ve enjoyed reading as much as I have over the last 24 hours. I planned my weekend around Heart-Shaped Hack, because I assumed I would love it. It’s Tracey Garvis Graves - Of course it would be phenomenal. I had no idea that not only would I love it, but that I would also get that “first time feeling” back from years ago when I began reading this genre. It just made all of the warm fuzzies come to the surface, and now I’m soaking it all in.
The most impactful aspect of Heart-Shaped Hack came in the form of an ingenious, creative storyline that I have yet to read anywhere else. It’s fun, quirky, and completely irresistible. These characters are so… so… perfectly imperfect. Their relationship is a bit weird, if I’m being honest, but it more than works. The course their relationship takes, from the very beginning through an explosion of emotion, left me speechless in the very best way. They just really are made for each other, and you can feel it in every single interaction. It’s an unconventional romance but that quality caused me to fall in love with them much more than I ever expected.

There were too many times to count that I found myself smiling for no reason. I giggled and laughed out loud more than I have in months. I highlighted more than I can ever remember. There was just so much greatness in this book. So much. I think having such a wide range of emotions present heightened the experience. It has the butterfly-inducing romance that sweeps you off your feet. It has the anticipation and worry that causes those same butterflies to take a toll on your heart. It has the humor that makes your cheeks hurt. It has it all, and she’s managed to find a balance between every single feeling flawlessly. You’re never tormented with too much angst, but you never feel totally comfortable either. It’s a brilliant story with just the right amount of ups and downs, and I wouldn’t change a single one of those turns, even when it hurts so badly.
Oh and also, let’s talk quotes. This one is FULL of them. It’s packed with different conversations, from the witty and hilarious to the meaningful and heartfelt. “I am falling so hard for you” hit me hard. I read that line probably 10 times and tingled, swooned, and sighed every time. It’s so strange because at first glance, it reads as nothing overly special and is very common, but in the setting that it was used and the timing, it was perfect. “Always choose love. Always choose the adventure. You’ll never regret it.” was a very close second. “Go away, extra girl” was a favorite as well. I giggled typing it just now. It’s still so dang cute. There are too many instances just like that in Heart-Shaped Hack. The way she weaves these words feels like magic.
I feel like as a reader and now a blogger, you know when you’ve read something monumental. Heart-Shaped Hack felt like it would no doubt become a new classic, with unforgettable characters and an inventive storyline that will stick with you over the years. As far as I’m concerned, it’s not only my very favorite book of the year, but is now going on my Forever Favorite list. I couldn’t get enough, and I’m not sure if I ever really will. Ian and Kate’s story has left a mark that I don’t ever want to go away. I’m madly in love with this book, and would give it more than 5 stars in a heartbeat.
