Throughout Confess, there’s one recurring movement, one meaning, one message – The character places their hand over their heart and clenches their fist. That. That is how I felt the entire time I read this book. It’s…phenomenal. I’m pretty outspoken that Slammed is my favorite Colleen novel. It just always has been. I don’t know if it’s the story itself, or the memory of reading it the first time, but it has always stood out for me. Til now… Confess is now my new favorite. I’m just blown away. Completely mesmerized.
In true Colleen fashion, this book is a sucker punch to the gut. Any and every emotion you can fathom feeling and experiencing is all there on every page. I giggled. I gasped. I swooned. I had moments of shivering from the adrenaline, or in shock of what was occurring on the pages. It hits you, and it hits you hard. We all know this when we open the pages of a CoHo novel, but this one just went above and beyond, in my opinion.
As you probably know, art is a major factor in this book. In the ARC we received, the images weren’t included, so I had to use my imagination. I can’t wait to one-click and see the real deal, because I’m betting my imagination didn’t even begin to do the real images justice. There’s one in particular that I cannot wait to see. Even for someone not overly interested or knowledgeable with art, it brought a whole new experience to reading their story.

Unlike the others before it, this one felt much more serious to me. It was more intense, more dangerous, more suspense, just more…adult, I guess? I don’t know, but it’s different in a fantastic way. The subject matter involved with Confess will cause you to dive deep, and you’ll find yourself holding your breath while you wait to see the outcome.
And let’s talk about outcomes! Okay, so Katie and I were talking about how every Colleen novel is usually written like a puzzle. You put the pieces together, slowly but surely, and you’ll eventually have that “Ah-ha!” moment, right? This one was like the ultimate, and not just with one storyline. It has a few mini puzzles that hold their own intriguing tale in itself, but when you see the whole picture? Wow. You’ll be biting your nails right down to the last chapter, wondering how everything fits together.
As always, the writing is flawless. It has her “way” that no one else can achieve, and it flows so perfectly off of the pages. The characters are so easy to care for, and you’ll find yourself so wrapped up in their world. There were some lines that you know only Colleen Hoover can write, and not only put the words on paper, but bring them to life or make them as believable as she can. She’s quirky and hilarious, so there was no shortage of little bursts of laughter around my house while reading Confess. And God, does she not write the most romantic lines? Sheesh. There’s a shower scene that made me bawl, because it was just THAT sweet. It was that on point, and just hit me all over.
Overall, this book will leave you in awe. It’s heartbreaking, it’s deep, and I feel like it will mess with your heart and mind more than any other before it. It was so easy to get caught up in their story, and needing to know what and who these characters truly were to one another. Although the story itself is quite sad in parts, it’s also heartwarming, beautiful, and just completely unputdownable.

Confess. Oh Confess. Ugh, this book. This book. I don’t have words.
Colleen Hoover writes puzzles. And every so often she gives you a piece. And everything starts falling into place. Slowly at first, you start to understand what is going on. And as each puzzle piece falls into place, the picture becomes clearer. And when the last piece falls into place and you see the entire picture clearly, it all makes sense. Colleen Hoover writes books that are unpredictable. You think you know what is going to happen, but it never does. And in Confess, she leaves you in the dark longer than normal.
Confess is a story about fate. And everything happens for a reason. And what has happened in the past, no matter how painful it is, makes you the person that you are and helps to make the decisions you make.
Owen. For a very long time, he feels very much like a mystery. I couldn’t figure him out. What he was about, what was going on with him, why he was the way he was. And then, his puzzle started coming together. And you get to know him and his story. And you feel for him. You understand why is the way he is, why he does what he does.
Auburn. Auburn is complex. But she is also so so simple. Her pieces fall together faster than Owen’s do. You learn more about her. You hear her confessions earlier. You hear about her life and get to know her. But it doesn't make things easier. Her life isn’t easy. But as the book goes on, she fights. Harder than she’s ever fought before. She in many ways, grows up and stands on her own.
Confess is broken up into 2 parts. Part one is very mysterious. The puzzle pieces are almost nonexistent. You get a few but they are on opposite sides of the puzzles. You can’t see the picture at all. You have a feeling you might know what it will be but you aren’t sure. Part 2. Part 2 starts throwing pieces at you faster than you can place. The picture becomes clearer. And parts of it, I didn’t want to see. But when the final puzzle pieces is in place, you realize that you just read a book about fate. And when life throws so much at you, there is a reason behind it. And when what you think is your fate doesn’t happen, hopefully you have more than one fate.
