Synopsis
Alexandra Jones has a pretty peachy life. A gorgeous, stinking rich fiancé, her sleazy boss is retiring which means an imminent promotion in a job she loves, and she gets her best friends Jimmy Choos when she dies, although she would prefer her best friend to stick around as long as possible. Obviously.
But when a blast from the past turns up on her doorstep just as her world turns upside down, she decides to take her best friend, Rosie, up on her offer of a 10 day break in San Francisco. Whilst Rosie works on a fashion shoot and Alexandra becomes well acquainted with the photographer’s brother, it becomes clear that this trip is one that will change their lives forever.

Review
Okay, officially - I’m an Ellen Faith fangirl. I had never heard of Ellen when she approached the blog for a review of this new book called The Story of Us. It sounded cute, so sure, we’ll review it. I am KICKING myself right now for having this puppy on my Kindle for so long and having not read it. It. Is. So. Adorable. Seriously, if you don’t read the rest of this review, take this one suggestion from it: Go one-click The Story of Us by Ellen Faith. It’s fun, it’s exciting, it’s hilarious. If you’re looking for a lighthearted (mostly) story that’ll make you swoon and laugh, this is the book for you.
This is the story of a girl who starts out having a bad day. Like a really bad day. You meet Lexi and things are just really not going her way. She ends up going to San Francisco with her best friend, Rosie, as a way to escape her troubles. She meets Ryan, the brother of a friend of a friend. And of course, he’s swoonworthy, beautiful, and just a good guy. He’s not an asshole who will cheat on her. He’s not someone from her past. He’s just…Ryan. Seeing their relationship grow from an awful meeting at IHOP to what it ends up as is such a joy to read. They’re adorable together. It can’t all be so easy though, right? Both have ex’s they have to deal with and he has a few secrets he’s hiding from her.
I loved both characters. I will say, I kind of wish Ellen had expanded more on the character’s backgrounds. There’s enough to grab you and keep you interested in their relationship. They never felt like strangers to me and it was still easy to connect with them. I do wish we had known a bit more about them rather than only living in the here and now within their story though.
The relationship between herself and Rosie is exactly what a true best friend relationship should be. They took care of, looked out for, and just loved one another. So as much as it’s a love story between Lexi and Ryan, I felt as close to Rosie as I did the two lead characters. She was amazing and exactly what Lexi needed. They’re also both very realistic. There were so many times I found myself giggling or smiling because one would say something to the other that I could absolutely see myself saying to my best friend.
I also loved how descriptive Ellen was, especially with all of the places Lexi went while in San Francisco. It wasn’t just “a park”, it was detailed and made you feel like you could have been placed there while reading that chapter. You feel it and breathe it. I loved that, and appreciated that Ellen put so much effort into the detail.
Overall, I loved this book. That seems too simple to say, but it’s what I keep typing. I just loved it. I loved the characters, the descriptions, the relationships. It was an easy book to read. There’s some angst, there’s some questions, and you may squirm a bit from the unexpected. But the majority of the book is a fun, sweet tale of a girl trying to make her life a bit better than what she left in England. I highly recommend it, and hope you love it as much as I did.
