I’m going to be honest. Reviewing a book by Abbi Glines is sort of impossible, because it really could be as easy as saying, “It’s another home run for Abbi. Go one click this one!” She has done it yet again, with her magical way of pulling you into the Rosemary Beach world of drama, romance, and everything in between. Not only is this another fabulous book by Abbi Glines, but the second chance romance aspect has my heart all mushy. Tripp and Bethy just might be my favorite yet.
If you’ve read the books prior to You Were Mine in the series, you’ll know these characters. You’ll know the struggles they’ve endured and the relationships they’ve built and lost. To dive head first into Tripp and Bethy’s story, or more importantly, their past, was so interesting. It was heartbreaking, seeing it from both sides and knowing that they never let go. You’ll be rooting from them from the get go.
I LOVED that Tripp was so loyal to her. He protected her, cared for her, and always put her first, even when she acted as if she didn’t want or need him to. I fell hard for his character. And Bethy… Bless her heart. The girl needs some hugs. She’s surrounded by the best friends you could hope for, but some things can’t be mended so easily. Issues from her past are haunting her, and you’ll feel as lost and broken as Bethy. But on that same note, when they begin trying to work through their past and start again, you’ll feel every emotion with them. Misunderstandings and guilt kept them apart for so many years, but seeing these two characters reconnect was just perfect. I adore them.

I’ve said it before in reviews, but I tend to not love books with flashbacks. In this case, it was a necessity but she pulls it off flawlessly. Flashbacks weren’t used so often that they might confuse you or throw you off, but just enough to give you more insight into what they experienced during their younger years. Just a few chapters or excerpts here and there made the book, in my opinion.
I’m sure if you’ve read anything by Glines, you know how her books work. It has every single element that you’ve come to expect, but the kicker is that she’s just so dang good at it. The romantic scenes are sweeter, the sex scenes are hotter, the angst and tension is higher, and the grief hurts that much more. You Were Mine is no exception. You’ll find yourself swooning, wiping tears away from a touch of heartache (let’s be honest, it’s more than a touch), and biting your nails at the will they/won’t they of Bethy and Tripp’s relationship.
You Were Mine is another fantastic addition to the world of Rosemary Beach. Everything you’ve come to love and expect from Glines is there, and you won’t be disappointed with this one. Tripp and Bethy’s story is romantic, sexy, intense, and oh so emotional. I can’t recommend it enough, as well as this entire series.
