Eeek! That’s really all I can type right now. Just eeek! This book has taken over my world for the last 24 hours, and now I have that weird, bittersweet feeling where you loved it so much and never want it to end, but yet it does. It ends so beautifully (and quite interesting), but it still ended, damn it! :-D
I can say with absolute certainty that When I’m Gone is a new favorite of mine by Abbi Glines. I haven’t been this emotionally invested in a couple since Della and Woods in Twisted Perfection. I swear, there wasn’t a thing I would change. The characters, the background, the storyline, and the hardships they endure. All of it swept me away, back to Rosemary Beach and all that it entails.
These characters are amazing. Are they perfect? Not a chance. Mase has all of the qualities we want. Loyal, protective, and the words that come out of that pretty little mouth of his? So much swooning going on. But ya know what? He’s a cave man, through and through, but it worked. He wasn’t the annoying alpha male that you want to toss a left hook to the jaw to. No, he was like the perfect combination of sexy, romantic, but oh so possessive all at the same time. There’s no doubt about it, he’s a new favorite. I enjoyed that he brought some country into Rosemary Beach. Reese is broken but strong. She’s trying so hard, and you can’t help but love her because of it. She’s naïve, she makes some choices that any person would think, “What are you doing?!” but at the end of the day, you know she means well. Her opinion of herself is truly heartbreaking, but seeing her fight and beat the battles of her disability as well as her past was heart warming, in a sad but very hopeful way. I think more than anything, I liked that they were friends before they became lovers. I guess technically, they sort of weren’t because you can feel it from the beginning. The support Mase provides, along with the fact that he treats Reese so tenderly and carefully, seemed to heighten their connection.

It’s Abbi Glines. Enough said. You know what you get with Abbi. Tales so sweet that you can’t help but fall in love right along with the characters. Angst and tension that you can feel, and it’ll make you want to toss your Kindle against the wall. Heartbreak that will cause your heart to curl up into itself. She’s Abbi, and she’s a pro at what she does. When I’m Gone is no exception. Glines has written another beautiful novel that is highly addictive with well-developed characters that you’ll adore.
As always, it’s Rosemary Beach. We get the characters we love and maybe…you know…one that we really hate. But nonetheless, they’re all there. I love that no matter how many times they’re mentioned, in previous books as well as this one, I can’t help but get a tad bit giddy when my favorites reappear. To see their growth from where they each were in their own books makes me smile.
Overall, this is one you won’t want to miss. When I’m Gone is easily a top favorite for me in this series, as well as a new favorite amongst all of the others I’ve read recently. It’s got it all, with characters you’ll be cheering for and an interesting story that will keep you enthralled. Want to squeal with excitement, bite your nails from the anxiety, feel those butterflies, or just simply fall in love? You need When I’m Gone. You won’t regret it. Easy 5 stars from me.
