Breathe.
Need to breathe.
I hate cliffhangers, but I love Jane Harvey-Berrick. In this case, my love for her massively outweighs my hatred of a cliffie, so it’s okay. But man…
It’s no secret that I adore Jane. I’ve never read a book by her that didn’t steal me away from the world or didn’t make me fall hopelessly in love. The most intriguing thing about a JHB book though, in my opinion, is how different her books always are. Every. Time. They’re never your generic tale of boy meets girl. She has the most entertaining stories and with her writing, the characters and their lives truly come to life. The Traveling Man was no exception. This ride is unlike anything else I’ve read, and that made me enjoy it even more.

The characters are SO well developed, and really make this story. You don’t have to hear about their pasts through memories, because you live it with them. You’re there for the firsts and the heartbreak in Kes and Aimee’s relationship. It doesn’t get better than that as far as character development goes. You care about them from the age of 10, and it only gets deeper from that point. More passion, more intensity, more heartache. More more more. Ahh, the joys of a Jane novel. These characters are so interesting, and you’ll want to know every detail of their lives. The good and the bad, their weaknesses and strengths. Every single piece of these two make for the most perfect story.
Which leads me to the writing. To say that the details of this one jumps off the page would be an understatement. You can feel the warmth of the sun, can see the twinkling of the lights, and can hear the ooh’s and ahh’s of the fans watching Kes’ show. It’s all there, and the characters are just waiting for you to join them in their world. And what a world it is. Jane hasn’t disappointed me before with her off the wall writing and unique storylines, and she isn’t starting now. I love her so much.
This story is one of change, growth, and where love fits into the crazy world of a relationship that is always moving. It’s romantic. It’s passionate. It’s hot. You’ll laugh, cry, scream, and melt. You’ll find yourself frustrated, then just as quickly, you’re crying tears of joy. Throughout all of it though, it's just a lot of fun to read. It's a book that you won't want to put down, because you must know how their lives turn out and whether they can make it through all of the obstacles placed in front of them. It has everything that we look for, and even with that damn cliffhanger, I can say this is a new favorite by JHB.
Now we wait for The Traveling Woman. Sigh.
