I’m constantly on the search for books that are different. Still romantic, still angsty, but unique enough that I’ll remember it weeks, months, and years later. Sweet Nothing has achieved that and for that reason alone, it will undoubtedly be a new favorite.
This sounds completely insane but the sense of dread you’ll feel throughout sorta made this book for me. I know, that doesn’t make any sense but when you’re reading it, you’ll totally understand. The tense feel that something major was heading the character’s way will have you chomping at the bit right until the very last page. And when that big, scary foreshadowing comes to fruition? Oh man. I think so many books attempt shockers or surprises, but this one legitimately worked. Who doesn’t love a story like that though? Gah, I couldn’t get enough. Which also leads me to...
I really enjoyed the fast pace of Sweet Nothing. I was talking to a friend who had also read it recently, and the one thing that both of us instantly agreed on was that it’s the epitome of a page-turner. It’s exciting and edge-of-your-seat thrilling, but all in a beautifully romantic setting. The love story will sweep you away, but the intriguing underlying issues within each character will grab you and not let go.

With the stellar writing styles of McGuire and Mummert, I think Sweet Nothing will arguably be one of the most enjoyable books of the year for me. It was just a lot of fun to read, even when it shouldn’t have been. I loved the characters, loved the storyline, and absolutely adored the twist. They’ve hit it out of the park with this one, and I would gladly give it more than 5 stars if I could.
