Really, I don’t even feel like I NEED to write a review, and could simply show this screenshot. You know it’s a keeper when it forces you to do this, right?
I have too much to say to leave it at that. I feel like I need to stop typing right now, go back and reread something swoonworthy Brax says, just to hold me over through the end of this. He’s an addictive guy. I also may see if my husband can speak with a Boston accent. That’d be amazing. Oh wait…Nope, he just tried “sweethaht” in a Brax sort of way. It’s not working for me. Okie and Boston don’t mix.
It’s been a very busy, crazy week and I had a hard time finding the time to get into this book. I kept trying, but it was only for 15-30 minutes at a time. I started having doubts, but I really thought that I wasn’t connecting right off the bat because I wasn't able to spend long amounts of time reading. I kept pushing through because this voice in the back of my mind kept nagging at me, wanting to see what happens with Gracie and Brax. Once I finally let myself sit down and REALLY dive into their world, I was a goner. I just devoured their story.
Essentially, it’s the story of the sweet, innocent girl who tames the college bad boy. She’s the nerdy girl who just wants to look at the stars and loves her family. He’s the hot baseball star who every girl wants. He knows it and thrives on it. It all sounds very simple. I expected this book to be a generic story that we’ve all read a thousand times, but this was unlike a lot of other stories out there. It was “so damn different”. There are so many secrets, so much of their pasts not being told, and it causes such an interesting world for these two characters to live in.
I loved these characters. I loved their story. I loved his accent. I loved their witty banter. I loved how strong Gracie is. I loved how much Brax changes. I loved seeing Gracie give herself to someone and know it could be real. I loved the heartbreak it caused, and the flutters in my tummy. I LOVED it! What else can I list in this paragraph…I’m rambling right now, so I have to stop. You’re getting the idea though, yea? LOVED this book.
There were a few tiny things I wasn’t so crazy about. It felt like during some parts, the descriptions were too much. Too vivid, if there’s such a thing. I appreciate the author wanting to really pull us into their world, but sometimes, it was a bit overboard. Not a big deal, I just found myself skimming very small sections at a time. I also felt like Brax might be a bit too quick to throw a punch. I know, I know. He’s the bad boy. He’s known for being rambunctious and crazy, amongst other things. Sometimes, I’d find myself rolling my eyes, thinking “Really? Again?” But! Overall, 99.9% of my heart belongs to Brax Jenkins right now. He’s phenomenal. He’s exactly what you want a transformed player to be. It did sometimes seem as if I had read some parts before in other books. A tidbit here or there. If we're all being honest though, there aren't a lot of books released today that don't have that problem. A lot of books run together. The majority of this one was different to me and stood out. I’d say it’s a bit predictable but then she’ll throw something out there that I didn't expect, and knock that silly idea right out of my head. Again, everything I just mentioned were small things. None of these changed the story for me in the big scheme of things.
Overall, Stupid Girl was a very sweet, refreshing story. If you’re tired of the rocker or billionaire, try this one out. It has the romantic moments, the unknown of whether things may work out like you expect (speaking of that, wow…what an ending! Wasn’t expecting that) and it’s really just absolutely adorable. It’s fun and exciting. It’ll take you on a roller coaster of emotions, and you won’t want the ride to end.
