Synopsis on Goodreads
This book is so great, and reminds me of why I got into all of this to begin with. Nowadays, so many books run together or all end up being the same, whether the author means for it to happen that way or not. Stolen Breaths is a breath of fresh air. It shows that you don’t have to have a sex scene every 10 pages. You don’t have to have a curse word to make the argument pop. It doesn’t HAVE to have that. Yes, it’s common and what we’re all used to. But Stolen Breaths shows that you can take all of that out and still have a sweet love story that will keep you interested from the first page to the last.
Cooper and Lily have one of the absolute sugary-sweetest stories I’ve read in a long time. There is subject matter that is dark and tragic. It will break your heart. Their tale is warm and fuzzy, and it makes you fall in love right along with the characters. I loved these characters and their attraction towards one another. The entire time I was reading, it kept reminding me of one of my favorite couples – Ryan and Taryn from Love Unscripted by Tina Reber. Ryan and Taryn have things thrown at them, but their love never falters. That’s Cooper and Lily to me. They deal with her past, but throughout it all, they have such an unwavering love and connection. It only makes them stronger.
Another thing I loved was the writing style in this book. If you’ve read our reviews here on Southern Belle, you’ll see that all three of us have very different styles. I tend to type exactly how I would explain the book if we were in person. This book…exactly the same way. Granted, it’s a lot cleaner and reads prettier than a single word I could ever write. They say realistic things to each other (Cooper is swoonworthy by the way. I LOVE him), the interactions have a very genuine but real feel to them. I just loved it all. I think at one point in the beginning, she used the word A-mazing. It’s fun and spunky and made the story that much more enjoyable for me.
Overall, I enjoyed this book so much. Sparkman will make you feel like you’re falling in love all over again, and really, is there any feeling better than that?
