This book. THIS. BOOK! L.H. Cosway is a freaking genius and she’s shown why, yet again. I couldn’t get enough of this one. I didn’t want to put my Kindle down for a minute or even a few seconds, so I didn’t. I’ve used the term “unputdownable” for a few other books, but this one holds the most genuine meaning of that word. It was un…put…downable.
In a nutshell, you’ve got Jay, who you meet and feel for from the very get go. He had a horrendous upbringing. Bless his heart, seriously. He’s now a famous magician, although he likes to use the term illusionist. We also meet Matilda, who works as the receptionist for her father’s law firm. Jay is suing a massively known newspaper for defamation of character, thus how they meet. With a few flips in the story, he also ends up renting the room at Matilda’s home she shares with her father. Over the course of the book, you see their relationship morph from…well…it just changes. I won’t say more. There are relationships formed, secrets kept, pasts that collide, illusions revealed, and well…magic happens. It’s absolutely fantastic.
I fell so in love with this story. Not just the characters, although I did adore them. Their connection is as plain as day, but you know there’s more simmering under the surface. Things that will change everything, and they do. Although I sort of thought I knew what might happen, I was still miles away from even being close to the big reveal at the end. This entire story is just intense. It’s romantic. It’s sweep you off your feet, makes your tummy flutter, swoon and sigh romantic. But while all of that sweetness is going on, you’ve got some serious mystery and suspense happening. For me, it never felt like a distraction. In some novels, it almost feels like they throw in some “mysterious” side storyline to make the book seem deeper. That’s not Six of Hearts. Cosway pulls off the combo of the romantic story with edge of your seat, nail biting suspense flawlessly. You’ll be cheering for Jay and Matilda, all while trying to force yourself to read faster to learn more about his case or why things are happening. She definitely keeps you enthralled with every little piece of this puzzle.
L.H. Cosway just has a way. She has some THING that makes her books jump off of the page. The storylines are always more creative, the characters are always more realistic, the writing is more eloquent. She can do no wrong, and I have the feeling I’ll say that after every single one of her novels. I’m a Cosway fangirl.
Overall, this book was completely mesmerizing. Their relationship, their pasts, the secrets being kept, and the future they hope for – it couldn’t have been written more perfectly. This was one of the most creative, captivating stories I’ve read in a very long time. It’s so unique and not like anything else out there right now. It will have you flipping those Kindle pages quicker than you can make your fingers work, and you’ll be on a complete high when you see The End. I can’t rave about it enough, and won’t stop talking about this one anytime soon.
