The thing I loved the most about this book, by far, is how she split it. We’re all used to the romance novels that end with nice little happily ever after’s all tied up with a bow. Right? Maybe an epilogue showing a few years down the road. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, and normally, it’s everything I hoped it would be. But what about after the warm and fuzzy endings? That’s where Shiver is different and will leave its mark on you. The first 70% of the book is written as a sweet tale. Ethan and Lissa have their up’s and down’s. They have the angst, the fights, the making up, and the unexpected events. It’s all there. Honestly, the first 70% could stand by itself and be amazing. I would LOVE just to read Ethan and Lissa’s story. But then it changes… and man, does it change.
I also have to mention how amazed I am with this author. She’s so articulate, and knows just the right thing to say to make those words jump off of the page. It’s not “just a book” with this one. It’s so much more. To write a debut novel that is this fantastic? I can’t imagine what’s to come. She’s one of those authors that you know you will forever love. I’m a fan, and can’t imagine ever not being a fan.
Overall, Shiver will make you feel. You’ll feel everything, from the beginning of the relationship and all that it entails, to the support they both give while overcoming obstacles, to the struggle as parents when faced with a disorder. You'll feel excitement, love, angst, heartbreak, joy, and so much hope. I adored this book and it’s absolutely gorgeous storytelling. CM Foss, you’re a pro lady.
