When I started this book, I’m not sure what I expected. I think I assumed it would all be fun and games. A lighthearted read about a girl with OCD and her cutesy tale of finding love. Some parts in LoveLines could be described exactly that way, but it’s so much more than only that. SO much more. This book blew me away. It was leaps and bounds above what I expected, and that’s saying something considering I think S. Walden can do no wrong. She somehow made a book I was so thrilled to read even better than I had planned in my mind.
Bailey has Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. With her disorder, she leads her life every day, on time and on her set schedule. Til she meets Reece. Reece changes everything. They grow as a couple and she grows out of her compulsions. It all plays out like a perfect romantic comedy, and you can feel it…hell, even Bailey knows, it can’t be that good for that long. And it isn’t. This is the story of her relationship with Reece as well as the battle within herself.
These characters are adorable. I love Bailey and Reece together. Every conversation and every scene was perfection. Even through the hard times and the lows, as rough as they were to get through because your heart is hurting so badly, they’re still amazing together (or apart). I don’t know anyone with this disorder but it seems like the details and the instances with her tics, etc were dead on. S. Walden obviously did her homework or is familiar with OCD, because every single detail seemed accurate. Bailey is sweet but funny, witty and strong. She goes through so much. Seeing how she changes was wonderful. And Reece. You’ll swear he was made for her from the first time he lays eyes on her. Although there are arguments and some intense moments in their relationship, you just can’t imagine them not being together.
Overall, this book surprised me. I had no doubt I’d love it. That wasn’t even a concern. It just wasn’t quite what I thought it would be, but that’s a good thing. A very good thing. It’s not the fluffy, sunshine and rainbows tale you think it is when you pick it up. There’s A LOT to their story, but I was enthralled with every page. It ranges from sweet and amusing, to tragic and heartbreaking all in just a few chapters. You’ll feel so many different emotions within this book, but you’ll enjoy every single last one. I highly recommend it and it’s absolutely going on my reread list.
