I LOVE when a book lives up to your expectations, or even better, when it exceeds your expectations. Little Black Book was even better than I hoped it would be. I just finished, so I haven’t started anything new, but I have a feeling this one is going to cause a serious book hangover and nothing will live up to it for a while. I love this book. So hard.
In a nutshell, this book is about Sebastian Black. Sebastian Black, who doesn’t get attached, doesn’t do love, and only does sex. He’s successful, rolling in money, and has a nice life, from an outsider’s view. Truth is, he has a rough past and some serious skeletons hiding in his closet. His whole ordeal is that he “hires” women, who then go in his little black book. He pays them, with the rule being when he calls, you come. You also don’t fall in love. If you do either of those, you’re cut and payment is stopped. That’s it. Then there’s Rosslyn, who has a tragically sad past and is trying her best (and somewhat failing, bless her heart) to survive with only her little brother. She needs a job, the club Sebastian owns needs a waitress. One thing leads to another, you get the idea. She’s propositioned and enters into Sebastian’s crazy world. But can she tame the bad boy? Can she make the guy who doesn’t believe in love do just that? I’d love to say more but it’d become very spoilery and I don’t wanna do that.
I love love love these characters. Love them. LOVE. THEM. Sebastian is charming and sexy. He knows it and owns it. He’s very alpha male and hot and…sigh. But when you meet the other side of Sebastian, that man is quite possibly the most dreamy, swoonworthy character I’ve read in a long time. Rosslyn, seriously, I want to hug her. She endures so much and keeps on pushing. She’s so strong and caring. Their relationship is so hot, but at the same time, it’s much more than that. It’s different than either of the characters expected, and seeing their relationship mature was fantastic. The characters are very well developed and you’ll feel like you truly know them by the end.
I loved that you can’t really nail this one to a specific genre. It’s hot. There is absolutely no shortage of scenes that’ll make you blush. It’s definitely a “can’t read at work because you’ll be so scared someone will see the pages of your Kindle” kind of book. We’ve all been there, and this is one of those. But yet, Vargo and Andrea can flip it so quickly, and suddenly you’re reading this amazingly sweet novel. There were scenes that in my opinion, were some of the most romantic moments I’ve read. I was home alone, laying in bed, and saying out loud “Awww!” or squeeing. As delicious as sexy Sebastian is, caring and loving Sebastian is even better. Plus, there’s the added element of mystery. Where usually for me, if something is supposed to be “mysterious” or suspenseful, you can kinda see through it. It becomes predictable. Not the case with Little Black Book. Some things started adding up and I sort of thought I knew what was going to happen. I was right, kind of. But that little bitty “kind of” still keeps it going and kept me wondering.
Overall, this is a wild freakin ride. It’s every single thing you want. Love? Got it. Sex? Lots of it, and beautifully written. A page turner? Absolutely. It’s sexy and exciting, but sweet and romantic all at the same time. I need more Sebastian and Rosslyn in my life, and definitely recommend this one.
