OMG this book. This is nothing like I’ve ever read from Tillie Cole. It is intense and sexy and takes you places that are just wow. There were parts that hit me so hard, I threw my ipad to the side. I just couldn’t read anymore. But then even though I felt like I couldn’t go on, I picked it right back up again because I couldn’t put it down. Tillie Cole kept me up until 2 am. I tried so many times to put down the iPad and go to sleep only to roll back over and pick it up again 5 minutes later.
I love MC books. Love them. Can’t get enough of them, but this one is SO SO SO different. Mae, isn’t just some chick, Styx picks up. She’s from a freaking religious commune. Has never been outside its walls. But she escapes and she runs and runs and makes her way to a road. She is picked up and ends up at the MC. Bleeding out from a vicious dog bite. They thought she was dead.
And Styx. He’s the MC prez. And he has a stammer. Can’t speak. He uses ASL to communicate with everyone except for his dad, who’s dead, and his best friend Ky. And this girl, his #3 who he met when he was younger, on the other side of a fence. And and and…..Oh I want to say so much more.
The way Tille describes life inside the commune is in depth and heartbreaking. Its, ugh. The way Mae describes what she’s been through breaks my heart. That was when I threw down the iPad. I just couldn’t read anymore, but this book drew me in. And parts of it left me raw.
I know this review is all over the place, but that’s how the book left me. It came together wonderfully at the end but during. My emotions were everywhere. This to me, is a must read. The journey wasn’t always be easy but the trip is so worth it.
