This is the story about 2 people with very sad pasts. They come together pretty much accidentally and learn what love is really about.
Sheridan is on the run from an abusive relationship. When she enters Brown County just to drive through it, she is rear ended by a drunk driver and ends up in the hospital with a broken foot and bruised ribs.
Mike is the paramedical who gets her to the hospital. And to him, there is just something about her. Feeling a connection, when Sheridan leaves the hospital, Mike offers her a place to stay. There is an instant attraction that they both feel but keep pushing it off. Mike never wants to be with someone after losing his daughter and divorcing his ex.
What starts off as an attraction moves to a friendship. They become best friends. Until Mike learns some secrets Sheridan is keeping. That for him, it ruins everything.
But they just can’t stay away from each other. They love each other so much. And they need to put aside the past in order to do that.
I liked this book but not as much as the other Brown County books and at times I felt it was predictable.. There was 1 thing that happened that I didn’t expect at all. It threw me as much as it threw Mike. But overall it was a good book.
