There are certain expectations from specific authors. You have your favorite that will rip your heart out with a character death. You’ve got the one that writes books that read like art. And then you have the Queen of Angst that will make your tummy flip, heart ache, and still leave you craving more. Take a guess on which of those K.A. Linde reigns supreme?
Side note: Make sure to read Diamonds prior to starting Gold. Besides the fact that they’re both phenomenal, you’ll also miss so much if you don’t go into Diamonds first. So definitely don’t miss out on the beginning of the story.
I think the aspect I loved the most was that you take this character that you SHOULD really despise, yet you can’t. Or maybe you will, but I sure couldn’t. My heart broke for her in Diamonds, but the person she chooses to be for much of Gold was… not ideal, yet I couldn’t look away. I was rooting for her. I wanted happiness for her. Whether she was the gold-digging Bryna or true Bryna, I loved her equally. Along those same lines, I really enjoyed nearly all of the characters. They each have their place, and Linde did a great job weaving it all together perfectly.

Her story has so many up’s and down’s with many different subplots, but the fast pace keeps you enthralled and the drama will keep those nails bitten short. You’ll be on the edge of your seat with every page, just waiting to see what could happen next and where Bryna’s life might go. If there’s one thing that Linde can do better than just about anyone, it’s rip you apart with angst and Gold is no exception.
My friend Jess and I were talking it out afterward (as we often do), and we both agreed that it’s very… Beverly Hills 90210/Gossip Girl-esque. If you’re a fan of those shows, I really think you’ll fall head over heels in love with Diamonds and Gold. They’re addictive, and I can’t remember the last time that I was this hooked into a story instantly.
Linde might make you squirm, break your heart, or make your tummy hurt in a great way, but if there’s one way I’ll always describe her books, it’s this: K.A. Linde will dazzle you. They don’t call her the queen of angst for nothing, and she proves why with the All That Glitters series. It’s pure, dramatic brilliance.
