My face hurts. Why, you ask? My face hurts from smiling, giggling, and being overall happy for the last hour and 15 minutes while reading A Very Merry Hockey Holiday. This book was everything I needed today. It's the perfect Christmas novella, and I loved every word.
Sometimes, it's nice just to jump into a fun, easy read. That's exactly what this novella was. It was quick and so enjoyable. No drama (maybe those last few pages, which will make you squeal for the future), no tears, no angst. Just plain holiday romance.
I loved that each chapter was for a specific couple. I've missed them, and I felt like it was the greatest of reunions by seeing them in more detail. You see what's new and exciting for each marriage, and you will feel so full of joy and have happy tears in your eyes with nearly every last one. Revisiting my personal faves made my heart so happy. Jude still makes me squeal like a little girl, Phillip makes me laugh, and Shea makes me swoon. I just love them.
It was also quite nifty that each "chapter" aka character's pov kept the same overall storyline moving along. It wasn't, say...Christmas day in each chapter. One short story led to another. It moved along beautifully, and I couldn't wait to see what would happen next.
I'm so used to sitting down for hours to read a Toni Aleo novel. She writes LONG books. So to start a novella, I wasn't sure how it would work. Not only did it work, but it was absolutely fabulously done. These very sweet, romantic, heartwarming tales couldn't have fit these characters and their lives better. This was a fantastic addition to one of my favorite series.
