GREED
by Fisher Amelie
by Fisher Amelie
I feel like I need to scream it from the rooftops – I LOVE THIS BOOK! Not just a little. And not just because it’s Fisher Amelie, because she can do no wrong usually in my eyes. And…not because I loved Vain, so by default, you would assume Greed would be just as good. I love it because of all of that plus the fact that it’s perfect. It’s just perfect. This is my first review, so I’ll try to do this book justice.
Without going into too much detail – Spencer Blackwell is the little rich kid who lives the life. He’s attractive, the ladies love him and he gets anything he wants. But with that, he has to do some pretty awful business-related deals for his dad. He finally hits his breaking point with that lifestyle, plus some family drama, and he winds up at a ranch in Montana. He goes with the flow and learns how to be a ranch hand, but what he doesn’t expect to find is a feisty little lady named Cricket Hunt. She’s gorgeous, she’s funny and she can run the ranch by herself; but there’s something else.
The attraction between the two is instantaneous. They want each other, it’s clear as day. But what’s stopping her? Maybe Ethan, the boyfriend? But Spencer can tell there’s more. She wants to break out and get away from the ranch. She loves it and her family, but she wants more out of life. Spencer just can’t figure out what it is that’s making her not live the life she wants. Throughout the book, you’ll see the transition in Spencer alone, as well as the love between Spencer & Cricket.
I love Spencer Blackwell. I love Cricket Hunt. And I just love their story! Love love love all around! Spencer comes across as a selfish jerk in the beginning, but you learn that he’s not. At all. He cares about other people, especially his little sister. He isn’t the spoiled brat everyone thinks he is. He learns through Cricket that money isn’t everything you need, and I just adored reading/seeing how he changed.
Cricket was amazing. I loved that she cared so much about her family, that she was willing to put her own happiness on the back burner for them. She’s funny, spunky and extremely hard-working. She’s not your girly girl who giggles and has to look perfect. She’s real.
By the end of the book, you also care so much about his sister and her newfound love, and the family that runs the ranch.
Fisher is a pro at pulling you into her character's world. She doesn’t dwell on break ups or fights and everything moves along at just the right pace. The big reveal as to why Cricket is with Ethan…heartbreaking. (A certain chapter almost caused my Kindle to be thrown against the wall.) But by the end, you’ve got the warm fuzzies in your tummy. It’s just…yay! That’s the best word I can come up with. It’s just SO MUCH yay! I hugely recommend it.
Favorite quotes -
“You don’t choose who you fall for, Spencer. Either you do or you don’t.”
“I’m saying that I don’t just want to be friendly with you, Cricket. I want all of you. I want to be able to taste your lips whenever I feel like it, feel your skin, wrap my arms around your waist. I want to be with you utterly, and I won’t take anything else but your entirety."
“I suffer for you,…I want to be near you always. I’m falling in love with you and it’s-it’s a sweet agony, however, it’s still an agony.”
This is Book 2 in The Seven Deadly series, following Vain. Although it is in a series, it can be read as a standalone. It mentions Sophie Price a few times (the main character in Vain) but it's nothing that will throw you off or change the story.
