Synopsis In Robin York’s provocative new novel, two young ex-lovers find themselves together again in the shadow of tragedy—and an intense, undeniable attraction. Caroline still dreams about West. His warm skin, his taut muscles, his hand sliding down her stomach. Then she wakes up and she’s back to reality: West is gone. And before he left, he broke her heart. Then, out of the blue, West calls in crisis. A tragedy has hit his family—a family that’s already a fractured mess. Caroline knows what she has to do. Without discussion, without stopping to think, she’s on a plane, flying to his side to support him in any way he needs. They’re together again, but things are totally different. West looks edgy, angry at the world. Caroline doesn’t fit in. She should be back in Iowa, finalizing her civil suit against the ex-boyfriend who posted their explicit pictures on a revenge porn website. But here she is. Deeply into West, wrapped up in him, in love with him. Still. They fought the odds once. Losing each other was hard. But finding their way back to each other couldn’t be harder. |

Review
I hadn’t read Deeper, book 1 of the series, before getting the chance to review Harder. So before reading Harder, I read Deeper, which is a must. And honestly, it didn’t grab me. There was just something about the story that didn’t do it for me. I loved the idea, I loved the characters but I just couldn’t get into it. But I had to finish in order to read Harder for review. And then I started Harder, and it GRABBED me. Hard. Like couldn’t put it down, grabbed me.
In Deeper, I liked Caroline and West. I mean really liked them. But when it came to Harder, I fell so hard in love with this couple. Caroline is one of the strongest female characters I’ve ever read. She crap she went through would gut me. Kill me. Knock me down so hard, I don’t think I would ever get back up. But she did. She is so strong. And so powerful. And really is my idol.
West. West. West. OMG West. This is not your normal male character. He hasn’t had the easiest life. He grew up in a trailer, taking care of his sister who is 10 years younger. His mother was absentee. Not physically abusive. But nowhere near mother of the year. His father was physically abusive. But by the end of Harder, man is he strong. He has grown up so much. I actually feel proud of him for the growth he went through in Harder.
Harder starts a few months after Deeper leaves off. West is still in Silt. He is pushing Caroline away but still holding on to her. He feels that she is better off without him but still can’t leave her alone. Caroline is mostly patiently waiting for West to understand that no matter what, she will love him. There is nothing, and you learn during Harder that there is nothing, that will push her away. She understands West, more than West understands West. She gets him to the core.
This book left me wanting more. More of West. More of Caroline. More of them together and a family raising Frankie, West’s sister. This is book that could end the series. It ended in a perfect place. But it left me wanting to much more. I want to know their future. Not if its happy. It is happy. But I have this deep need of knowing what they are and who they are and what they are doing.
