Ginger Scott. Why has no one mentioned how amazing Ginger Scott is? She writes such classic New Adult. All of those elements that we love are pieced together perfectly in her Falling series. I signed up, not really realizing that You and Everything After was the second in a series. Me being me, of course I had to read the first. I’m SO glad I did. I’ve been swept away in their world, in one semester at college that changed all of the character’s lives for many different reasons. She writes beautiful stories of hope, love, humor, and growth, and I desperately need the third in the series. Like asap. I’m not above begging.
I fell hopelessly in love with Nate and Rowe in This is Falling. Truly, I couldn’t stop. But throughout the book, you meet Nate’s brother Ty, and Rowe’s roommate/best friend Cass. You get glimpses, but you have NO IDEA what’s under the surface of their relationship. In You and Everything After, you dive head first into their world. The part of this entire journey that I loved the most is that she made it SO different. For me at least, I don’t love books that are rewritten within the same time frame but a different view as a previous book. It always seems so repetitive. I was beyond pleasantly surprised with this one, and it exceeded every single expectation I had. Although some scenes are duplicated, just feeling it from Ty or Cass’s view felt like an entirely different scene. There is SO much going on with them. Secrets kept, stories untold, lies of omission, and more romance than you saw before. I loved that, while she did retell the same time frame and certain situations, it never felt like it. It was a brand new story, through and through.

I love the character development in this story. I can honestly say, I can’t think of another book that expands on two characters as much as You and Everything After. While you may think Ty is sarcastic, carefree, and your everyday cocky guy, there’s so much more to his character. He IS those things, but to see his pain, past, and emotions beyond the surface? I fell hard. Hard. He’s a remarkable character, and I loved seeing parts that we might not have known before. Same goes for Cass. She’s the supportive roommate with the bitchy sister and hot boyfriend, yea? No. No no no. Her past has owned her, for a few different reasons, and to see her change and mature was phenomenal. It’s definitely the perfect example of not judging a book by it’s cover, because these two have more substance and meaning than you will have ever guessed. Not to mention, theirs is the epitome of a love story. How they help each other, lean on each other, support one another through the good and bad, the ugly and beautiful. It was perfect. I love how much they love each other, even though it takes a while to accept that.
Their story isn’t easy, it’s not always sunshine and flowers, but it’s so addictive. Ginger Scott does a fabulous job of building this world, where you’ll find yourself rooting for them, laughing with them, and hurting with them. Your heart will soar, break, race, and be mended back together. To me, that’s when you know the author has done her job right, and Scott absolutely did hers exactly as I had hoped.
I also love the little tidbits that make this story pop. There’s no shortage of meaningful, intense, or even scary situations, but there’s a lot of fun too. The pranks, the quirky back and forth, and the one liners they trade. Ty is hilarious, and Cass keeps him on his toes. You’ll never want to skip a single paragraph or page, because you might miss something great. Also, the first time Ty finally gives in and says he loves her? I swear, I read that scene countless times, because I couldn’t get enough. It was so very Ty and Cass, and couldn’t have fit two people better.
Overall, I went in a bit nervous because it was a retelling from two different characters, but you’ll never know it. It’s unique from This is Falling. Where Nate and Rowe had issues, they were all about the romance. Ty and Cass are different, in that they have so many different sides to their story, but put each other first and work through them. This book is filled with so much hope, wit, heartbreak, support, and love. Lots of love.
